What are the age requirements for renting?
"
In most U.S. states and Canada, the acceptable rental age is 25; drivers between the ages of 21-24 may rent at an additional $25* per day (subject to change without notice). Note the following provisions:
Renters 21-24 must present a valid, an acceptable credit card and a valid driver's license
At time of rental, an additional per-day underage surcharge for these drivers will be applied
Drivers between the ages of 21-24 will not be permitted to rent luxury cars, 15-passenger vans, full-size or premium SUVs
If a renter wishes to add an additional driver to the rental policy, the second driver must be 25 or older, and present a credit or debit card. (Note that there may be some select corporate and non-corporate locations that do not accept a debit card.)
If you plan to pre-pay your rental and are under 25 years of age, underage charges will be added at the counter and will need to be paid prior to rental.
Maximum Age Limits: There may be upper-age restrictions in the United States and Canada, however as fees and permissible vehicle types vary by location, please check with

What kinds of credentials do I need?
Generally, in the U.S. and Canada, the primary piece of identification required to rent a vehicle is a valid Bahamian driver’s license. The preferred second credential is a major credit card. With prepaid rentals, some locations may require the renter to provide an international passport and a round-trip airline ticket, e-ticket, or travel itinerary (displaying the renter's name) to or from the airport of rental, disclosing a return date of the traveler.
Will they accept any other form of identification in lieu of a driver's license?
A Bahamian driver’s license is a must when renting a vehicle with our program and is required for renting any type of vehicle in our program as well.
Can someone else drive a car that I rent?

Yes, provided that their name is on your Rental Agreement. An additional driver must be at least 25 years of age. The car rental company will check the additional drivers' license to ensure validity prior to rental.

Do you charge extra for an additional driver?
The fee for the additional driver is at $9.99 per day, plus tax, with a maximum charge of $70.00, plus tax, per rental week. The following are exempt from the fee but must meet all other driver requirements: companion driver of a renter with a disability. As a matter of interest, 2nd driver and it's assosciated taxes, is included in most of our rate plans (rental programs).
Do you offer vehicles for drivers with disabilities?

As part of the commitment to meet the needs of customers with disabilities, services include hand controls at no extra cost. Van Rental Shop cannot guarantee hand controls for every make or model of vehicle, and cannot confirm a reservation for a particular make or model of vehicle on any rental. Although many locations carry these items as part of their regular inventory, demand can vary. These items must be reserved at least 48 hours prior to rental.

Can someone else drive a vehicle rented by a driver with a disability?
"
Yes, drivers for renters with disabilities must have a valid driver's license, meet all driver qualifications in effect at the location, and accompany the renter with a disability to the location at time of rental.

Do you offer hand controls?
"
Yes, and many other assistive devices for use by individuals with physical challenges. You have the option of requesting hands controls during the vehicle booking process.

As we negotiate directly with the car rental companies, our goal is to obtain the best rental rates for Bahamians traveling abroad. To remain competitive in the marketplace, rentals are discounted during the off-peak seasons. So, depending on your rental date, daily and weekly prices may differ.

How do I search for availability? Book a Room(s)?

To search for available hotel rooms, after you click on the “Hotel” tab, or picture link, you will be asked to select your dates, country and destination (city). Upon hitting the “Search” key, you can select which hotel at the price category you would prefer. To book, simply confirm using the “Book Now” key. You will be asked to enter the arrival and departure dates in the home page. Remember that the departure date does not refer to the last night (i.e. if the last night of my stay is 12/09/2012, I should put the next day as the check out date, in other words, 13/09/2012), enter the number of rooms and room type; then click on search and book.
The program will then check availability according to the information given on dates and rooms. A new page will list all available hotels; then select the hotel that you prefer. The total price of the rooms for the entire stay will be displayed. A new window will then open where you will view your order. Click on book now and will be asked to enter your details (name, etc.). Once all the mandatory fields in the form are filled in, you will be asked to accept the regulation on privacy and personal data processing.
After this operation you must pay on the protected bank server an account of the total price. The booking confirmation will be given via an email sent to the address entered in the data form (mentioned above). Should you not receive that email confirmation, please contact us as soon as possible at

Can I specify where I would like my room located (preferred floor, city view, etc.)?
"
You can specify your preference during the booking stage, however, we cannot guarantee room location because it is subject to availability, as rooms are allocated upon check in. Note that guest staff are dedicated to ensuring that your preferences are accommodated if available.

What is the difference between the following room types and occupancy categories?
"
Choosing a hotel room category can often be a daunting task, especially when there are so many individual room-type descriptions to choose from. Here are a few that are generally most popular within the USA, Canada and Mexico;
Standard:
This category usually is the most basic room type offered by the hotel. It has basic amenities and furnishings.
Deluxe:
These rooms are supposed to be Deluxe in every way: with better than average view, location, furnishings and size.
Run of the House (ROH):
This can mean anything the hotel wants it to mean, but typically the interpretation should be ""standard room or better at time of check in; any location within the hotel"".
Suite:
Suite is usually two or more rooms clearly defined; a bedroom and a living or sitting room, with a door that closes between them. Many hotels use the word ""suite"" to define any room with a sofa in it so be sure to check thoroughly if what you really want are the two or more separate rooms.
Studio:
This is usually configured like a Junior Suite, but has the added advantage of a ""kitchenette,"" or cooking facilities.
In terms of occupancy (bedding) arrangements;
KING (K):
A kingsized bed, in U.S. measurements, that would be 72 inches wide by 72 inches long.
QUEEN (Q):
A bed in U.S. measurements that is 60 inches wide and 72 inches long.
DOUBLE (D):
A bed in U.S. measurements that is 54 inches wide and 72 inches long. It is also known as a FULL-sized bed.
TWIN (T):
A twin is supposed to be 36 inches wide and 72 inches long, but it can also describe a bed that is as narrow as 32 inches wide. It is also sometimes called a ""single"" bed.

Our children will be with us... do they stay free?
"
Depending on the country and hotel chain, the age requirement for children varies, based on hotel policy. However, usually in the USA and Canada, children under the age of 18 years stay free with a parent or guardian using the existing bedding. Rarely are they allowed to stay in a room by themselves. If possible, it is usually best to book adjacent rooms if you require more than one room.

How long does it take to receive a confirmation to my booking request?
"
All confirmations of hotel bookings are executed in real time and thus are immediate upon completion of payment. Confirmations are received directly from the hotel. The booking confirmation is given INSTANTLY because room availability is constantly updated in the system. In any case, each individual hotel is solely responsible for everything concerning booking management through the system. When hotels join the network, they undertake the responsibility to constantly update their own data on room availability. It is suggested that you print your confirmations at the time of booking.

What is the deposit policy on my reservation?
"
The price of requested room is confirmed by the Hotel Reservation department. Prices and rooms availability are not guaranteed until the online payment is received. Your credit card is charged for the cost indicated at time of purchase, thus no deposit amount is necessary until your arrive at the hotel for incidentals. (Incidentals are telephone charges, etc.)

What is the amendment policy for my booking? How do I amend my reservation?
"
Changes can be made to bookings prior to the check-in date without penalty as long as the reservation is not within penalty window. Amendments are made at a cost of $10 per room/ per booking, per plus any room or category price changes based on the check-in and check-out dates.

How do I cancel a reservation? What is the cancellation policy on my reservation?
"
Similar to amendments, once the cancellation is within the penalty window (after the days indicated by the Hotel in the Cancellation Policy Section of the Reservation Confirmation), the room can be canceled forfeiting the total price of first nights room fee plus an admin fee ($10). If your booking is not within the penalty window for cancellation, you will be charged the admin fee only and the balance credited to a futurel stay. Please note that we are unable to give a refund if you return early.

What credit card types are accepted for guarantee/deposit?

All credit and debit cards accepted by the Paypal system are accepted for payment with this site,
i.e.g. Visa, Mastercard, AMEX and Discover Cards.

I am eligible to receive a discounted rate. How do I use a coupon? Promo code?
"
If you are eligible for a discounted rate, you may enter your coupon or promotional code during the payment section of the booking process. Any discounts will be applied to the total prior to the conclusion of the transaction. During the secure check out process, clients will see a box where coupon or promotional code is inputted and the total purchase price will be recalculated based on the value of the coupon or promotional code.
